About Cecilia Maina, FNP After moving to America, Cecilia Maina, FNP, found health care to be a meaningful path forward as she started over in a new place. “Over time, it grew naturally into a lifelong passion for learning and serving others,” she says. Cecilia earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (Family Nurse Practitioner) degrees at Goshen College, Goshen, IN. In her role, Cecilia takes care of patients by listening to their concerns, diagnosing health problems, prescribing medications when appropriate. “I work with them to improve and maintain their overall health,” she says. Her philosophy to practicing medicine is to meet patients where they are and to work with them, so they feel heard and feel their needs are addressed. “Health is the most important asset we have and it is an honor when people trust me with their care,” Cecilia says. In her own words… Who is or was the most influential person in your life? My dad What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? Data entry; I remember being very happy just to have a job. What is your favorite food? Movie? Food: Githeri Movie: Coming to American (the original) What was your best/worst subjects in school? Best: history and chemistry Worst: math If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Someone who has lived through significant hardship and can share insight, because those are the conversations that shape how I practice and live. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? Giving back and promoting reading by providing books for elementary school-age children. What are your hobbies, interests? Knitting and exercising. What is something most people don’t know about you? I have a dry sense of humor.
