About Yolanda Cobley, NP As a young girl, Yolanda Cobley, NP, became interested in medicine. “I find all of the systems of the body and how they work together to be fascinating,” she says. Yolanda has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, earned at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. Yolanda then attended Duke University, Durham, NC, where she received her Post-Master’s Certificate, Cardiology Nurse Practitioner. In her role in cardiology, Yolanda cares for a variety of conditions. “I diagnose and treat adult patients with cardiac conditions such as atrial fibrillation, chest pain, heart failure, syncope (passing out), and heart arrhythmias,” she says. As for her approach to medicine, she says she tries to treat each patient wholistically. “I take into consideration their wishes, their ability to access care, medications and treatments, their beliefs and honor what they consider precious to them,” Yolanda says. In her own words… Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My parents. What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I was a waitress in a local family-owned restaurant. I remember it was a fun time, but very busy. I learned how to stay organized and think ahead. What is your favorite food? Movie? Food: Tacos Movie: The Godfather What was your best and most challenging subjects in school? Math was my best subject, English Literature was tough, but I learned a lot. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Neil Degrasse Tyson. I have so many questions for him about space, time and the universe. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I really enjoy traveling. I love to go on adventures and explore other states and countries. What are your hobbies, interests? My family and friends watch and follow lndyCar racing. I would like to also watch a Formula One road race at least once. What is something most people don’t know about you? I can recite all the names of the 50 states in alphabetical order.
