His philosophy as a provider is to meet people where they are – emotionally, culturally, and medically. “I believe that effective care begins with genuine human connection, and that listening without judgment is just as important as clinical expertise,” he says.
The variability in each patient’s condition reinforces the importance of curiosity and critical thinking in clinical practice, he says. He asks questions to uncover nuances that might otherwise be missed.
“This mindset fosters a deeper understanding of both disease and the patient, ultimately leading to more thoughtful and personalized care,” he says, adding, “My goal is to support them in becoming advocates for their own well-being, long after they leave the hospital setting.”
In his own words…
Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? It’s hard to choose just one, so I’d say both my Mom and Dad— I know it’s not the most original answer, but it’s the truth!
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was as a science tutor. I remember being challenged by the thoughtful questions I was asked and how my students’ different perspectives helped deepen my own understanding of the material.
What is your favorite food? Movie? Favorite food: Buffalo wings Favorite movie series: The Lord of the Rings trilogy
What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Best subjects: Biology and chemistry Weakest subject: Language Arts
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? David Foster Wallace, because I found his writing both insightful and, at times, prophetic. I would be genuinely interested in understanding the individual behind such thought-provoking work.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about/what are your interests? I’m very interested in running, weightlifting, walking my dog, hiking, and spending time with my family and friends.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I was in the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which remains one of the accomplishments that I’m most proud of.
