About Heather Solfronk
Nutrition became a major interest for Heather Solfronk in her early teenage years. “I have always been fascinated with the way foods and all the individual nutrients and micronutrients they contain shape our health and well-being,” she says.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI, she worked for the Berrien County WIC/Health Department and then at the Spectrum Lakeland Weight Loss Center in Niles, followed by the St. Joseph County WIC (Mishawaka), supporting women, infants and children. She earned her Master in Science of Human Nutrition at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanit, MI.
Heather choose the specialty of dietetics, because she feels infants and children will decide the future of our communities and world. Giving them the best possible start nutritionally, can play a key role in that, she believes. “It is a gift to contribute to these early years,” she says.

In her role, Heather gives her pediatric patients, evidence-based nutrition education, which often includes in-depth comprehension of nutritional concepts and guidelines.
“I help parents and caregivers understand how nutrition will nourish their children for better growth and development,” she says.
Her patients have taught her resilience, she shares. From adults trying to achieve a healthier lifestyle, to a breastfeeding mom sacrificing self-care to nurture her baby, or an infant with health issues who still has a huge smile, Heather says she is always amazed at what humans are capable of.
“I absolutely love what I do! I am a lifelong learner and will always strive to find the best nutrition plan of care for each individual.”
In her own words…
Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My dad. He taught me how to work hard, love hard, and learn from all people despite your differences.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? When I was 14, I began my first job in the salad and dessert kitchen of Schuler’s Restaurant in Stevensville, MI, my hometown.
What is your favorite food? Movie? True to dietician form, my favorite food is pan-fried tofu and veggies. Favorite movie: The Godfather
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? My mom. I very recently lost her after a difficult battle with cancer. She was a kind, compassionate and wonderful woman and I would love one more meal with her.
In addition to nutrition, what are you passionate about? My family! I am married with three kids and I love them all dearly.
What are your hobbies, interests? Reading, hiking, gardening, camping, traveling and spending time with family.
Do you have pets? Yes, 3 dogs – Roxy, Jax and Bandit
What is something most people don’t know about you? My alternate care path would have been a conservation officer.
