About Abbie Maes
Caring for a child with Cerebral Palsy played a huge part in guiding the career of Abbie Maes, FNP. “I did in-home respite care for a child with Cerebral Palsy and that family shaped by entire nursing and medical career,” she says.
Abbie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, IN, and her Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner, at Ball State University, Muncie, IN. Her career has included roles as an emergency room registered nurse and a forensic nurse examiner.
Now she works as an advanced practice nurse, providing comprehensive care to patients with traumatic injuries. “I want to learn to push myself and continue to grow as a healthcare provider,” she says, adding that the trauma specialty allows her to do that.
From her patients, Abbie has learned to slow down, explain everything, be patient and have compassion. “The patient is the core of who I am as a provider and I will always be my patient’s grea...
