About Kelly Peddy
As a clinical pharmacist, Kelly Peddy, PharmD, likes working directly with patients. “I enjoyed community pharmacy, like Walgreens or CVS, as a student, but I fell in love with my current position during my last year of pharmacy school,” she says.
Kelly’s role as a pharmacist includes meeting with patients to discuss their medications, including what the medications are for, how to take them, side effects to watch for and more. She also meets with Medicare patients for their annual wellness visits.
“I picked pharmacy as a freshman in high school. I liked chemistry, and I didn’t want to be a physician or nurse. Pharmacy seemed like a good idea, and I haven’t turned back since then,” she says.
She is a graduate of Drake University, Des Moines, IA, where she earned her Masters in Public Administration and her Doctorate of Pharmacy. Her Pharmacy Residency was completed at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy, Louisville, KY.

Kelly’s education and professional experience have led her to limit her internal bias when she meets with patients. “Don’t assume that you know about what a patient has experienced,” she says. “I think it’s helpful to go into patient appointments with an open mind.”
From patients, she has become more aware of outside factors that can impact someone’s ability to take their medication. “For example, a patient can’t take their medication if it’s too expensive or if they don’t know how to administer the medication,” she says.
To improve a patient’s success with their prescriptions, Kelly works to help them understand their medication, adding that many people may not fully know why something was prescribed to them. “I hope to help fill that knowledge gap,” she says.
