As a kid, Michael Allen, FNP, always had an affinity for science and enjoyed meeting and talking with new people. “A career in medicine was a natural fit,” he says, adding, “My mother is a nurse and she exposed me to the world of medicine early and the interest stuck with me.
Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Western Michigan University-Kalamazoo, MI. His Master of Science degree, Family Nurse Practitioner, was earned at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor-Ann Arbor, MI.
As a family nurse practitioner, Michael cares for people throughout the continuum of life, from birth to death. “I chose this specialty because I have a passion for learning and there are few other professions that require the length and depth of knowledge base as a family nurse practitioner,” he says.

Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My parents. They worked hard to make sure their children have a better life than they had. They succeeded.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked at Gull Lake country club at the golf course. I remember it fondly – days spent outside talking to people.
What was your best/worst subjects in school? My best subject was biology and my worst was math.
What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy watching various sports, especially Michigan football. I also enjoy video games, golf and am getting into hunting.
