When she was five years old, Kaitlin Castro, PA-C, told her pediatrician that she was going to be like her one day. At age nine, she became interested in Alzheimer’s disease after her grandmother’s diagnosis. From there, she took medical courses in high school and by the time she got to college, she’d found the PA profession. “I fell in love with the ability to diagnose, treat and manage patients,” she says.
Kaitlin graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Health Sciences. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Indiana University, Indianapolis.
During PA school, Kaitlin rotated through 11 locations and specialties, giving her a well-rounded experience. Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? I can’t choose just one. I look up to both of my parents’ strength, kindness and love for their families.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked as a sales associate at Outpost Sports. I remember that I LOVED talking to costumers and being able to get a discount on North Face and Patagonia clothing.
What is your favorite food? Movie? My favorite food will always be fettuccini alfredo. My favorite movie is Pitch Perfect.
What was your best/worst subjects in school? My best subjects were science and math. My worst subject has always been social studies.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? I would sit down with my sister. She just moved away and I miss her!
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I am passionate about education and lifelong learning.
What are your hobbies, interests? I love to read, try new coffee shops, work out, and spend time with my family and friends.
Do you have pets? Yes, I have had a Maltipoo since I was 12 years old. Her name is Lucy lu!
