About Paul Zenker, MD
About Dr. Zenker
“I love taking care of children and families,” says Dr. Paul Zenker. “Kids are fun and usually heal and get better with good care.”
A connection with kids began for Dr. Zenker while he was in his first post-college job as a teacher. “I decided on medicine - and pediatrics - when I was teaching high school in the Peace Corps,” Dr. Zenker says. “I loved teaching biology and math, and working with kids and teens, but also saw a real need for public health and healthcare overseas.”
Even though he was not premed in college, he began work on his MD a few years after earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame. He studied medicine at University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. He earned his Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University School of Public Health, New Orleans.

He studied medicine at University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. He earned his Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University School of Public Health, New Orleans.
Dr. Zenker is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. He has taught and worked clinically in pediatric emergency rooms, clinics, medical missions (10 different countries), immigrant/refugee/travel clinics, CDC and state health departments, summer camps, and as medical director of a community health center.
He chose Beacon because it is a dedicated pediatric hospital, which aligns with his experience and passion. He wants his patients to know that he strives to treat everyone like he would a friend or a family member. “We are all God’s children and deserve to be treated with love and respect,” he says.
In his own words…
Who has been the most influential person/role model in your life? There have been many. As with most people, my parents primarily.
How do you spend your time? Life is full! Daily prayer time. Regular exercise (while listening to medical podcasts to keep up with advances in medicine). Spending time with family and friends and my church community.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? If I could have dinner with anybody, it would be the apostle Paul. What was he thinking and trying to address and explain when he wrote each of those epistles?
What are you most passionate about? Building God’s kingdom here on earth.
