Katrina Kennedy, FNP, was drawn to a career in health care through an early interest in understanding and addressing human suffering. While studying journalism and political science, global events and social issues sparked a desire to help people in more direct and tangible ways. That realization led her to pursue nursing and, ultimately, a career in advanced practice nursing.
Katrina earned her Bachelor of Arts in journalism and political science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Indiana. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing as a family nurse practitioner at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Indiana. Her training and clinical background include family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, urgent care, and hospital-based care.

As a hospital medicine nurse practitioner, Katrina cares for adult patients who require admission to the hospital due to acute illness. She evaluates patients, develops treatment plans, places orders, and ensures clear communication among care teams. Katrina values honest, straightforward communication and believes understanding a patient’s full story is essential to providing the best care. “Always do the right thing, even if it’s hard,” she says.
Katrina approaches care with curiosity, integrity, and respect, focusing on collaboration and clear communication to support patients during vulnerable moments in their hospitalization.

Who is or was the most influential person or role model in your life? The French philosopher Simone Weil.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked at a toll road McDonald’s when I was 16. I remember a lot of grease, lonely truck drivers, and busloads of people heading to Notre Dame games.
What were your best and worst subjects in school? My best subject was English. My worst was calculus.
What are your hobbies and interests? Thrifting, hand quilting, genealogy, and spending time with my family.
