About Amanda Doeden, NP
About Amanda
Amanda Doeden’s philosophy as a medical provider stems from her belief that everyone is a valuable asset to the community. “My philosophy is to provide holistic comprehensive care to all patients and families regardless of their economic status, gender, lifestyle, beliefs, or ethnicity,” she says. “Inclusive, evidence-based care should be available to everyone. I believe in advocating for every patient and the positive effects of empowering patients to attain their highest possible quality of life, whatever way they define it.”
Her decision to pursue nursing came in her first year of college, when she was studying elementary education. While working in a group home, she had a sad experience where her favorite patient was in the ICU, dying. The ICU RN who took care of him and also brought Amanda comfort made her realize she wanted to make a positive impact on others, even in difficult times. After that encounter, she switched her major and earned her degree in nursing from IU South Bend and then became an ICU nurse.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she diagnoses and treats patients of all ages and with a variety of urgent medical conditions. Her patients have taught her that they want to be heard and do not want to be judged either for their lifestyle or what they believe in.
“I take time to really listen to patients an include them when developing the plan of care,” she says. “I want them to know that I think it is an honor to care for others and that I will work with each patient and their family to assure they feel heard and taken care of.”
In her own words…

What were your best subjects in school growing up? I did best at math and science.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Neil deGrasse Tyson because he is so knowledgeable and explains things well; I could ask him questions about astrophysics all day.
