About Carrie Yuan, PA
About Carrie
Physician assistant Carrie Y. Yuan has always been passionate about science. She explored this passion while researching a serious gastrointestinal illness in premature babies. “Observing the countless hours the physicians and surgeons provided care for their patients while also developing research methods in the lab was incredible,” Carrie says. “I wanted to work alongside these amazing physicians and contribute as much as I can clinically while contributing to research.”
To do this, Carrie earned her master’s degree in physician assistant studies at Idaho State University. From her schooling and experiences, she’s learned the importance of compassion. “Even a simple act of kindness and showing someone that you care can change so much, both physically and mentally, whether through listening or acknowledging what they are going through.”

From her schooling and experiences, she’s learned the importance of compassion. “Even a simple act of kindness and showing someone that you care can change so much, both physically and mentally, whether through listening or acknowledging what they are going through.”
Carrie practices this compassion by listening to patients and addressing their individual needs. She understands that kindness can change a person’s health. She keeps up to date on evidence-based medicine so that she can treat patients with care and compassion – and a higher level of clinical excellence.
Her commitment to kindness, relationships and expertise makes surgical oncologic gynecology the perfect specialty for Carrie. “During my training, I felt a strong connection to my oncology and women’s health patients. Due to the nature of their treatments, I was able to see these patients frequently and get to know them,” Carrie says. “These are some of the strongest and most amazing patients I’ve ever met, and I want to do as much as I can to support them along the way.”
In her own words
Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My grandmother. She is an incredibly strong and resilient woman. She has endured many events in her life and continues to be a very strong-willed individual. She may be stubborn at times, but I have come to understand that her stubbornness is a result of making her own decisions.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was working in a Dunkin’ Donuts in high school. I can still smell the sticky donut frosting that was stuck on my uniform. I had quite the caffeine addiction and probably drank three mocha lattes a day. I also ate Boston cream donuts with a spoon just to get to the custard filling.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I once auditioned for MasterChef! I made a braised short rib with garlic mashed potatoes.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be and why? My grandfather. He passed away when I was a very young child, but I have many fond memories of him. I would like him to know how I turned out as an adult.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I am very passionate about scientific research. I used to work in research, and I still love to read about new advancements. Scientific advances are truly fascinating, and every day, it amazes me what people discover.
