About Carley Brewster
Even though Carley Brewster, DNP always thought she would have a career in medicine, she began on a different path before changing her major during her first year of college. “I decided to obtain the most terminal clinical degree for my profession of nursing and worked to achieve my DNP,” she says.
Carley earned her Bachelor of Nursing at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN, and continued her studies there for her Doctorate of Nursing Practice.
After spending time in multiple specialties, Carley chose family practice as her specialty. “I found that nothing is as rewarding as providing healthcare along the lifespan of a patient and creating positive relationships in the process,” she says.
Carley believes the patient provider relationship is about teamwork. “It is my job to educate you the best I am able, about the risks and benefits about health and wellbeing,” she says, adding, “however, in the end, if [patients] are not ready for change i...

An important lesson through training and experience for Carley has been to dig in and research for answers. “Do not treat based off your gut,” she says. “Your gut may be right the majority of the time, but once you stop evaluating past what you think, you could really cause harm.”
In her own words…
Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? Both of my parents inspired me to be who I am and do the work that I do.
What was your first job growing up? I was a babysitter; it was the first time I became CPR certified.
What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? I was best at science and worst at history/social studies.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? I would like to sit with my husband. I understand anyone would be amazing, but what I cherish most in life is time with my family.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I am passionate about animals.
What are your hobbies, interests? Being outdoors, learning new skills, journaling
Do you have pets? Yes, dogs.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I have watched all of One Piece that has been released, only dubbed though.
