About Donald Mohs, MD
Dr. Donald C. Mohs has always wanted to be a doctor. “I suspect that my mother whispered that to me when I was in my crib as a baby, planting the suggestion,” he says.
Because the complexity of head and neck anatomy interests Dr. Mohs, he chose otolaryngology as his specialty. With more than three decades of experience, Dr. Mohs is an expert in diagnosing, treating and operating on head and neck conditions. “ENT is a good mix of office-based care, as well as surgery. I can see all ages – infants to elderly.”
Dr. Mohs began his medical career in 1988 when he earned his medical degree at the University of Southern California. From there, he completed the Basic Surgery Internship at Oakland Naval Hospital. Dr. Mohs then served as a naval flight surgeon in the Third Marine Air Wing in the Marine Corps Air Station. Next, he completed his Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

From these experiences, Dr. Mohs has learned the importance of thoroughness. “Even when a problem is straightforward, it’s often more complicated than at first thought,” he says. “I take whatever time is necessary to treat patients, including educating them regarding their problems and treatments.”
In his own words
Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? Probably my sixth-grade teacher.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I was a busboy at the Fremont Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. I remember it was very hard work.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I grew up in Las Vegas.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be and why? A toss-up between Benjamin Franklin, Teddy Roosevelt or Ernest Hemingway. All led exciting, varied lives.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I like bicycling and physical fitness. I like to read good science fiction and enjoy playing computer games occasionally.
